I have just today. I recieved a summon notice in my mail. For the life of me I left Pennsylvania 2 months ago. And I just got picked a week ago. I'm offically out of Pa so can people in that state get it in their heads that I'm a resident of California? I mean I moved my SSI out of state, that should be enough.

Anyhow, dad helped me bail me out. I had to call and leave a fax stating I'm out of state now. This will elude me from being fined $500.00 you read right. You can be fined up to $500 by the committee for a no show.

So wanted to ask all you out here...... You ever get picked for Jury duty? I mean I was chosen for the pool, all I'd have to do is do a questionare and then see if my number got chosen. If not YIPPIE. But as some told me "Get it done and over with."

I've gotten summons in the mail, but I just called and told them I was blind and that leaves the option whether I want to do it or not. They said that they had material in braille, but I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to. I don't know how other blind people feel about serving, but I don't feel comfortable. It's not just the fact of having someone elses fate in my hands, but also, what if there's some very visual evidence or something of that nature? I don't feel that it'd be fair to the defendant if I can't give it my all. Maybe some cases I could, but I don't want to take the chance of perhaps getting a case where it'd be a hinderance.

I served on a criminal jury in MA; my being totally blind had no impact on my service. I was glad to do it.

Cheers,

That part about, "Get it done and get it over with," if only... three times as it were I have been called upon regarding jury duty. Just because you are called upon and fill out the various forms and report to the court house and the like does not mean you will not be called again...and again..

Once I was an alternate jury-person in a situation of a store theft.

I don't know why it has been but in every situation where a lawyer has asked questions regarding drinking and driving and I have made it a point that I consider that if a person drinks then they should not drive, well, it seems this has given me to be excluded on more than one occassion. I know in one situation a Judge mentioned to a lawyer that he didn't know drinking was a factor. The lawyer said at present in that particular case it wasn't but at some point it might prove to be a factor. Guess with my views it was thot I would be biased and thusly excused.

I think drinking and driving penaltys at least in the U.S are way to lax. there are people with 4 or 5 DWI's out there that still drive. I believe in europe one strike and your out! while some might think that to harsh maybe if you knew if you were caught drinking and driving that your driving days were over it might make a lasting impact. that, or our public transpertation would get a lot better!

I was told by the state that I didn't have to do it because of my disability because of the transpirtation issue.

i've done it, it's brilliant. in as much as it teaches you a few things. photographic evidents was described to me on the order of the judge, the jury never did it, people either in the dock or witness box did the descriptions themselves. i'd say to anybody, go for it, it's a very interesting experience
